US, EU and UK sign world's first international AI treaty

The US, EU, and UK sign the world’s first legally binding international AI treaty, prioritizing human rights and accountability in AI regulation.

The world has moved a step closer to unifying its goals and values related to artificial intelligence following a meeting of world leaders to sign the Council of Europe’s AI convention.

The United States, European Union and the United Kingdom are expected to sign the convention on Sept. 5. The convention highlights human rights and democratic values as key to regulating public and private-sector AI models. 

The convention on AI would be the world’s first international treaty on AI that is legally binding to its signatories. It makes all accountable for any harm or discrimination that comes from AI systems.
